13th Floor Elevators – The Psychedelic Sounds Of The 13th Floor Elevators
Forget about San Francisco: The American capitol of psychedelic rock was Austin, Texas, and no band soared higher than Roky Erickson and the 13th Floor Elevators. In addition to acid-tinged garage rockers such as the crazed-love anthem, You’re Gonna Miss Me, the Elevators’ debut included tracks such as Reverberation (Doubt), Roller Coaster, and Splash 1, which viscerally evoked the sounds of their titles while offering lyrics that provided a philosophical structure for the psychedelic experience. The lyrics were written by Tommy Hall, who also played amplified jug. Hard as it may be to believe now, that jug created a weird sound that predicted that burbling synthesizers of modern-day techno.
A double heavyweight vinyl edition of the Elevators’ incendiary debut album featuring re-mastered mono and stereo mixes plus the band’s intended running order. Previously only available as part of the ‘Music Of The Spheres’ boxset, this is the first vinyl reissue from tape sources of the stereo edition for over three decades. LP1 is the mono edition and LP2 a remastered edition of the original stereo mix in the band’s intended running order.
