Talking with the Taxman About Poetry is the third album by Billy Bragg, originally released in September 1986. This long overdue vinyl reissue comes in a gatefold sleeve and was remastered by John Webber at Air Studios using high-resolution transfers made from master tapes in Billy’s archives. There will also be a limited edition run of coloured vinyl albums. For Talking with the Taxman About Poetry, Bragg embraced a more fully realised band sound with the help of special guests Kirsty MacColl and Johnny Marr and production courtesy of John Porter (Roxy Music, The Smiths) and Kenny Jones. ā€˜Taxmanā€¦ā€™ was his first top ten album and gave the world some of his most enduring songs in ā€˜Greetings To The New Brunetteā€™ (his first top 40 hit), live favourite ā€œLevi Stubbsā€™ Tearsā€ about a victim of domestic abuse taking comfort in the music of the Four Tops, and classic workersā€™ anthem ā€œThere Is Power in a Unionā€.
