Hot Wax Records was a soul and R&B record label founded in 1968 by the legendary songwriting and production team, Holland– Dozier–Holland, after their departure from Motown Records.
Alongside Invictus Records (their other imprint), Hot Wax allowed them to continue creating music independently, with full creative and financial control. Hot Wax specialized in vibrant, richly produced soul music with a strong pop sensibility — very much an extension of the signature Motown sound but often edgier and funkier. It became a major player in early 1970s R&B. Some of its most notable artists and releases include Honey Cone (“Want Ads,” “Stick-Up”) The 8th Day (“She’s Not Just Another Woman”) Flaming Ember (“Westbound #9”).
This collection brings together some of the most treasured singles from the Hot Wax label. Includes in-depth liner notes by acclaimed writer and music historian Stuart Cosgrove
